Fawkih Triangle

Fawakih's unique curriculum is a comprehensive program that aims to teach its participants how to read primary source texts in their original Arabic,  use them to extract and understand lessons, and finally, learn to how to contextualize the learning properly within the American context.

The curriculum takes a multi-faceted approach to teaching Quranic Arabic in order to provide students of all levels what they need to get the most out of the program. Beginning with the rules of Quranic recitation, the program progresses to memorization of Arabic vocabulary through the acquisition of roots and pattern structures. This is followed by a focus on grammar, morphology and rhetoric in order to sharpen language analysis skills. These tools enable students to conduct an in depth analysis of grammatical construction on the meanings that have been extracted by scholars of Tafsir.  Further analysis of the key vocabulary used in these surahs and how the precise choice of words influence meanings is also examined. Finally, in order to complete the circle and ensure that constructive learning has taken place, students create presentations using the material covered to address important thematic topics.

Students spend three hours a day in Arabic class and at least one hour each night reviewing material and completing assignments.  Fawakih's intensive curriculum with over 125 hours of instruction over the month enables students to increase their Arabic knowledge in leaps and bounds.

Arabic Curriculum Goals:
  1. Enable the student to read and understand the Quran and other classical Islamic texts in their original language
  2. Enable the student to understand religious sermons, lectures, and classes delivered in classical Arabic
  3. Enable the student to grow in Arabic studies through the ability to communicate in Arabic verbally and in written form

Evening lectures offer students the chance to apply the Arabic skills learned during the day to relevant Quranic verses and Hadith. They are also an opportunity for community members to benefit from the Fawakih environment.

Students learn more in four weeks at Fawakih than at most universities in one semester and also benefit from leading scholars and thinkers at Fairfax Institute.
