Why The Divine Names?
Say: Call upon Allah, or call upon Ar-Rahman: by whatever name you call upon Him, (it is well): For to Him belong the Most Beautiful Names. (Qur'an 17:110)
Imam al-Ghazali wrote that knowledge which contributes to knowing Allah is by far the greatest and most beneficial knowledge one can attain; this explains why Surah Ikhlas and Ayat ul-Kursi are so noble; they deal with Allah and His attributes. Knowing Allah through His Beautiful Names using Arabic to develop a deeper understanding of them is the purpose of the Islamic studies portion of this program. This program aims to take the Arabic that the students are learning and apply it to the Quranic verses pertaining to the Divine names, achieving the dual benefit of Quranic and Arabic studies at the same time.
Fawakih is pleased to offer an array of Arabic classes that cater to the varying needs of our students. The introductory Arabic class will quickly take students from no knowledge of Arabic to a basic understanding and an ability to read simple texts independently and carry basic conversations. The intermediate class will further build upon the previous knowledge of the students and expose students to the linguistic subtleties of the Arabic Language through a study of morphology and syntax. Finally, in the upper intermediate class, students will begin to delve into more complex aspects of the Arabic language through a study of aphorisms, poetry, proverbs, Quran and Hadith. All of the classes will inshAllah not only be interesting and stimulating, but also challenging and intensive.
- Introductory Arabic- Ustadh Ahmed Elwa
- Intermediate Arabic 1-
- Intermediate Arabic 2- Ustadha Usaama al Azami and Ustadh Tammam Alwan

- Integrated Arabic and Islamic Studies : Tafseer of Divine Names – Shaykh Jihad Brown- The Quran is full of the Beautiful Names of Allah which are placed in perfect harmony with their context; however, it is often easy for us to read the verse and the name without reflecting on the deeper meanings of why Allah chooses to place certain names in certain verses. Furthermore, the names themselves contain linguistic subtleties that once unpacked, help us to realize the reality of the names. This course will chronologically go through the verses in the Quran in which the names of Allah appear focusing on the context, the subtleties of the meaning, and lessons that we can extract and implement in our daily lives.
- Lecture: The Beautiful Names of Allah - Joint Lectures (Sh. Laher, Ust. Faisalm. Sh. Taha Abdul-Basser).- This class will use the timeless book of Imam Ghazali entitled the 99 Beautiful Names of Allah in order to unpack the depth of meaning behind each name, as well as, understand the names of Allah with relation to one another. Although there are hidden meanings within each name, when juxtaposed with similar names or opposite names, a greater understanding is achieved. InshAllah by attending this class and gaining a deeper understanding of the names, students will be able to strengthen their connection with their Creator.
“No people gather in a house of the houses of Allah to read the Qur`an and study it between themselves except that tranquility descends upon them, mercy covers them, angels shield them, and Allah makes mention of them to those in His presence – (Sahih Muslim)” The science of Tajweed has been known to be the most noble of sciences because it deals with the recitation of the Holy Quran. This two-day workshop concentrates on the basic principles of effective public speaking, teaching Muslims how to take lessons from the early successes of Islam and the wisdom of our Prophet, peace be upon him, and apply them to the modern American media context. Through exercises and hands-on training, we help Muslims learn how the media works, what new trends and personalities tell us about successful messaging, what too many Muslim organizations don't know about introducing their voices into the public sphere and why so many Muslims fail to become effective public speakers.
